Preparation Steps
- Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings.
- Toss onion rings with 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix remaining flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt, then stir in club soda.
- Heat oil in a Dutch oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Dip each onion ring into the batter and fry in small batches for 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Transfer fried rings to a wire rack and sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
