Method
 

Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut stale French bread into 1-inch cubes and layer in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together whole milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract for 1-2 minutes.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together eggs and sugar for 2-3 minutes until smooth.
  5. Fold the egg mixture into the milk mixture and gently stir.
  6. Optional: Fold in the orange zest for added flavor.
  7. Pour the custard mixture over the bread cubes and gently press down to ensure soaking.
  8. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes before baking.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 120 minutes until golden on top.
  10. Cool for 15 minutes before serving with vanilla sauce.
