For the Casserole
  • 1 pound ground beef Substitute with ground turkey or plant-based alternatives for a lighter or vegetarian option.
  • 1 onion, diced Shallots or leeks can be used as a substitute.
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced Fresh garlic is recommended.
  • 1 jar marinara sauce Any tomato sauce can work; adjust seasoning accordingly.
  • 1 package cheese-filled ravioli Use gluten-free ravioli or substitute with sliced zucchini or eggplant.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Swap with provolone or cheddar for different flavors.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For Garnishing (Optional)
  • Fresh basil leaves For color and fresh flavor.
  • Red pepper flakes For extra heat if desired.

Method
 

Instruction Steps
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef for 6-8 minutes, then add the onion and garlic, cooking for another 3-5 minutes until the onion is translucent.
  2. Pour in the marinara sauce and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the cheese-filled ravioli according to package instructions for about 3-5 minutes. Drain using a colander.
  4. In a greased casserole dish, layer the beef mixture, followed by the ravioli and a layer of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.
  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes and garnish with basil before serving.
