  • 2 tablespoon cornstarch can swap with all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
For the Teriyaki Sauce
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar or brown sugar/honey
  • 2 tablespoon rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil optional
Flavor Enhancers
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger peeled and minced
  • 2 clove garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
Toppings
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds optional
  • 2 scallions green onions chopped

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Begin by thinly slicing the flank steak against the grain. Place the sliced beef in a large Ziploc bag and sprinkle in cornstarch. Seal the bag and shake gently until coated.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Once shimmering, add the beef in a single layer. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Transfer to a plate.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, honey, and cornstarch until smooth.
  4. Pour the teriyaki sauce into the skillet over medium heat. Let simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional minute. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.
