Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and ¾ cup of warm water to activate the yeast. Allow the mixture to sit for approximately 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture, ½ cup of plain yogurt, and 2 tablespoons of oil or ghee. Stir until the dough begins to come together, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Place your kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, covering it. Set in a warm area to rise for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
- After rising, punch down the dough lightly. Divide it into 8 equal portions and shape each into a ball. Roll each ball into an 8-inch oval about ¼ inch thick.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly grease it and place one rolled naan onto the skillet. Cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook for another minute.
- Mix 2 tablespoons of melted butter with 2-3 cloves of minced garlic. Brush the garlic-butter mixture over the hot naan and garnish with salt and chopped cilantro or parsley.

Notes
Yeast should be activated properly and dough should be kneaded until smooth for the best naan texture.
