Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 160°C (320°F) and grease your baking pan lightly with butter or baking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together room temperature butter and caster sugar until light and fluffy (3-5 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until smooth (2-3 minutes).
  4. Pour in the vanilla extract and custard powder, folding gently until combined.
  5. Gradually sift in the self-raising flour and milk, folding until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading evenly, and tap gently to release air bubbles.
  7. Bake for 50-55 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick inserted in the center.
  8. Remove from oven and allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
