Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium bowl, mix together gochujang, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and any additional spices. Allow the marinade to sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. Thoroughly coat the chicken pieces in the prepared marinade and let them sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Heat enough oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to approximately 350°F (175°C).
  4. Lower the marinated chicken pieces into the hot oil, frying in batches for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
  5. While the chicken is frying, steam the bao buns according to package instructions, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Assemble by opening the soft steamed buns, filling with crispy chicken, and topping with pickled vegetables.
  7. Present the assembled bao buns on a platter while still warm and encourage your guests to enjoy.
