Step-by-Step Instructions for Sausage Stuffed Shells
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather all ingredients and equipment.
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cook jumbo shells for 1 minute less than package instructions for al dente, then rinse them under cold water.
- In a cast-iron skillet over medium heat, brown the ground Italian sausage for about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
- Combine cooked sausage with ricotta cheese, chopped basil, minced garlic, grated Parmesan, and egg in a mixing bowl. Mix until well combined.
- Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce in the bottom of the skillet. Fill each shell with the sausage mixture and arrange them in the skillet.
- Pour remaining marinara sauce over the shells and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Optional: broil for 1-2 minutes for a crispy top.
- Garnish with additional chopped basil before serving. Enjoy your delicious sausage stuffed shells!
