Step-by-Step Instructions for Sausage Stuffed Shells
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Gather all ingredients and equipment.
  2. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cook jumbo shells for 1 minute less than package instructions for al dente, then rinse them under cold water.
  3. In a cast-iron skillet over medium heat, brown the ground Italian sausage for about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
  4. Combine cooked sausage with ricotta cheese, chopped basil, minced garlic, grated Parmesan, and egg in a mixing bowl. Mix until well combined.
  5. Spread 1 cup of marinara sauce in the bottom of the skillet. Fill each shell with the sausage mixture and arrange them in the skillet.
  6. Pour remaining marinara sauce over the shells and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Optional: broil for 1-2 minutes for a crispy top.
  8. Garnish with additional chopped basil before serving. Enjoy your delicious sausage stuffed shells!
