Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Simple Salisbury Steak
- In a large mixing bowl, combine lean ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly by hand until well incorporated.
- Place a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Allow the oil to heat up until it shimmers, about 2-3 minutes.
- Carefully form the beef mixture into patties of about 1/2 inch thick and place them into the hot skillet. Cook for approximately 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and no longer pink in the center.
- In the same skillet, reduce heat to low and whisk together brown gravy mix with hot water until smooth, scraping up any brown bits.
- Once the gravy is smooth, return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Allow to simmer on low heat for about 3-5 minutes, uncovered, until gravy thickens.
- Remove skillet from heat and transfer patties onto a serving platter, garnishing with fresh herbs if desired. Pour any remaining gravy over the top.
