Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Simple Salisbury Steak
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine lean ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly by hand until well incorporated.
  2. Place a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Allow the oil to heat up until it shimmers, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Carefully form the beef mixture into patties of about 1/2 inch thick and place them into the hot skillet. Cook for approximately 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and no longer pink in the center.
  4. In the same skillet, reduce heat to low and whisk together brown gravy mix with hot water until smooth, scraping up any brown bits.
  5. Once the gravy is smooth, return the cooked patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Allow to simmer on low heat for about 3-5 minutes, uncovered, until gravy thickens.
  6. Remove skillet from heat and transfer patties onto a serving platter, garnishing with fresh herbs if desired. Pour any remaining gravy over the top.
