Preparation Steps
  1. Thinly slice the English cucumber and half an onion into uniform pieces. Sprinkle cucumber slices with salt and let sit in a colander for 10 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 4 ounces of softened cream cheese with 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and whisk until smooth.
  3. Gradually add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, whisking until well-combined.
  4. Rinse the salted cucumbers under cold water and pat dry. Toss the cucumbers and onion slices with half of the creamy dressing for 5 minutes.
  5. Gently fold in the remaining dressing and optional ingredients like crab meat or diced avocado.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish and refrigerate for 10-15 minutes before serving. Add garnishes like toasted sesame seeds or crispy shallots.
